Infleqtion, Pasqal and planqc: More Neutral Atom Builders to Watch
A crowded, exciting field
Beyond QuEra and Atom Computing, three more neutral atom builders deserve a place on your radar. Each shows a different side of how fast this technology is moving. For general background, read neutral atom computers explained.
Infleqtion
Infleqtion, a Colorado company, builds a neutral atom platform called Sqale, with Superstaq software. A September 2025 update reported 12 logical qubits with error detection and correction, applied to a Wellcome Leap Q4Bio biomarker project, plus a hardware run of a simplified Shor's algorithm using logical qubits. On September 24, 2026, the company reported entangling 30 logical qubits in one state using 80 physical qubits, with about 1,000 physical operations. It credits an AI assisted discovery of a new entangling operation that reportedly needs half as many physical gates as known versions, and says the result was confirmed by a signal about 1,000 times stronger than the noise.
Fine print: this is a company press release, and the "first commercial neutral atom system" wording is the company's. I did not find independent verification. Targets of more than 100 logical qubits in 2028 and 1,000 by 2030 are roadmap goals. Infleqtion reported first quarter 2026 revenue of 9.5 million dollars according to coverage of its earnings call.
Pasqal
Pasqal is a French company building neutral atom machines for data centers. A press release dated August 6, 2026 said the SEC declared its registration effective on August 5, 2026 for a business combination with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II, with a shareholder meeting set for August 25, 2026 and a planned Nasdaq ticker of PSQL. The deal was first announced in March 2026, and other coverage put the value at 2 billion dollars before the deal, a figure the press release itself did not state. Press coverage (for example The Next Web) reports that the merger closed on August 27, 2026 and that Pasqal began trading on Nasdaq as PSQL on August 28, 2026, with the $2 billion described as a pre-money valuation agreed in March. I did not find a Pasqal or SEC closing notice, so check the company's filings for confirmation.
Technically, Pasqal says its architectures exceed 1,000 physical qubits and targets more than 10,000 physical and 200 logical qubits in the long term. It also reports a 140 qubit system at CINECA in Italy linked to the Leonardo supercomputer, and a claimed materials simulation advantage with Los Alamos National Laboratory. Those are company claims, and "advantage" claims in particular deserve scrutiny, see advantage explained.
planqc
planqc is a German company spun out of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. It leads a roughly 20 million euro project funded by Germany's research ministry to build a 1,000 qubit machine called MAQCS for the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ). In a September 2, 2026 news item, LRZ reported that about 800 kilograms of equipment had arrived, with installation scheduled for 2027. Coverage also said planqc is building a 100 qubit system for DLR, the German aerospace center, also expected in 2027, and that planqc won a Made in Europe Award in 2026. Sources disagree on the exact atom species, so we leave that detail aside. No 2026 performance milestone for the 1,000 qubit system was found.
What these three have in common
All three are building machines to sit beside supercomputers, which matches a wider trend toward hybrid computing, see NVQLink. All three also lean on public funding or public markets, so claims get tested by regulators, customers and investors. That scrutiny is healthy.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths: scale, flexible connectivity and growing government demand. Weaknesses: company reported results, the slower pace of atom based cycles, and the gap between a demo and a reliable service. Compare with ions in this side by side guide.

What to watch next
Keep an eye on independent write ups of Infleqtion's 30 logical qubit circuit, how Pasqal performs as a newly listed company, and the first benchmark results from planqc's LRZ machine once installed. Those checkpoints will show which of the many promising claims turn into dependable, repeatable science.

Frequently asked questions
What did Infleqtion report in September 2026?
It reported entangling 30 logical qubits using 80 physical qubits on its Sqale platform. This is a company announcement without independent verification.
Is Pasqal public?
Press reports say it listed on Nasdaq as PSQL after a SPAC merger that closed on August 27, 2026, following an SEC filing declared effective on August 5, 2026. Check Pasqal's own filings to confirm. This is not a recommendation about any security.
When will planqc's 1,000 qubit machine be ready?
LRZ said installation is scheduled for 2027, and equipment began arriving in 2026.
Is QNT linked to any of them?
No. The memecoin is an independent community token.
