Quantum Venture Funding 2024 to 2026: Where the Money Came From

Updated | 4 min read | QUANTUM (QNT) community

The short version

Quantum went from a science project to a serious investment theme in just a few years. Money is pouring in because the potential is huge: machines that could one day simulate molecules, optimize huge systems and secure data in new ways. That is the optimistic side. The honest side is that most quantum companies still earn little revenue compared with what they spend, so funding is what keeps the lights on while the hardware matures.

What the trackers reported

Secondary coverage of industry trackers (we could not open the original PitchBook, QED-C or McKinsey reports) says 2025 was the biggest year on record for private quantum funding, but the totals depend on who is counting:

SourceReported 2025 figureWhat it likely measures
PitchBookAbout 3.9 billion dollars across 125 dealsVenture style deals tracked by PitchBook
QED-CAbout 4.9 billion dollars, up 192 percent year over yearPrivate venture capital across quantum technologies, a wider scope than PitchBook's computing focus
McKinseyAbout 12.6 billion dollarsA broader measure that also includes capital markets deals

The same coverage reported that deals of 25 million dollars or more made up roughly 3.5 billion of the PitchBook total, about four times the prior year, and that the share going to large venture growth rounds rose from around 1 percent in 2024 to about 30 percent in 2025. In plain terms: 2024 was a year of many small checks, and 2025 was the year big investors showed up with big checks. QED-C also reported about 12.7 billion dollars of new government funding commitments in 2025, which is larger than the private total. See government money for how that works.

The big rounds

A handful of deals drive the headlines:

One analysis of a twelve round cohort found that the five largest financings made up about 63 percent of the total. Funding is concentrated: a few leaders get most of the money, and many smaller teams compete for the rest.

Why investors are interested

Why caution is still wise

How to read a funding headline

Ask four questions. Who is counting, and what do they include? Is the money a committed round or just an announced intention? Is it equity, debt or a government award? And what does the company have to deliver for the money to make sense? Those questions turn a scary or exciting number into something you can actually understand. The optimistic takeaway

Whatever the exact total, the direction is clear: more serious capital, from more serious investors, is backing the people building quantum computers. That money funds fridges, lasers, chips, error correction research and hiring. It does not guarantee success, but it gives the field the runway it needs to try.

Frequently asked questions

How much money did quantum startups raise in 2025?

Reported figures differ by tracker: about 3.9 billion dollars from PitchBook and about 4.9 billion from QED-C. A broader measure from McKinsey reported about 12.6 billion. Each counts different deals.

Is more funding a sign a company will succeed?

No. Funding shows investor interest, not delivered products. Roadmaps are targets and often slip.

Is the QNT memecoin funded by these rounds?

No. The QNT memecoin is independent of Quantinuum Ltd and has no link to any company, lab or government.
