What to Expect at IBM Quantum Developer Conference 2026
What the event is and who goes
The IBM Quantum Developer Conference (QDC) is IBM's yearly stage for its quantum hardware and software. IBM's own application page lists the 2026 edition as a three day event on November 11 to 13, 2026. It is aimed at quantum developers, engineers, researchers and computational scientists, plus students and educators, and IBM says reviewers prioritize active Qiskit users. Attendance is by application: IBM lists applications as closing September 21, with final invitations going out by October 12. One search summary names the Sheraton Grand Riverwalk in Chicago as the venue. We could not confirm the venue on the IBM page we read, so check it before you travel.
What 2025 showed
IBM's press release dated November 12, 2025 described the previous edition. Reported highlights, all from IBM's own statement:
- Nighthawk: a 120 qubit processor with 218 tunable couplers, which IBM said supports circuits about 30 percent more complex than its predecessor, up to 5,000 two qubit gates. IBM's stated gate targets were 7,500 by the end of 2026, 10,000 in 2027 and 15,000 by 2028.
- Loon: an experimental chip that IBM said demonstrates the key hardware pieces needed for fault tolerant computing, including long range on chip couplers and qubit reset.
- Decoding: IBM reported that classical hardware decoded errors for qLDPC codes in under 480 nanoseconds, a year ahead of its schedule.
- Fabrication: wafer production moved to a 300mm facility at the Albany NanoTech Complex in New York.
- Advantage tracker: IBM, Algorithmiq, the Flatiron Institute and BlueQubit contributed three experiments to an open, community led tracker, and IBM said it expects verified advantage cases by the end of 2026.
These are IBM's claims. The advantage ones in particular get challenged by outside researchers, as the history in the 2023 utility story shows.
Things to watch for this time (not predictions)
IBM's page lists topic areas: Hamiltonian simulation and optimization, new Qiskit tooling, an expanded functions catalog and benchmarking toolkit, quantum centric supercomputing, error detection and correction, and progress toward fault tolerance. Against IBM's public roadmap, here are things worth watching. None is a forecast that they will happen.
- Any update on the Kookaburra processor, which IBM's roadmap lists for 2026 (roadmap guide).
- Whether the advantage tracker has candidates that outside groups have checked, and how IBM words the claim.
- Gate count and error rate figures for the next Nighthawk iteration, and whether they match the 7,500 gate target.
- Decoder and error correction results, and how many logical qubits are real versus projected (error correction state of play).
- Qiskit and HPC tooling news, which tends to matter more to developers than to headlines.
Targets are goals, not deliveries. A roadmap slide is not a working machine.
How to follow along
IBM's page says remote viewers can tune in online and that recordings of all presentations will be published on the IBM Quantum Platform shortly after the event. It does not describe a live stream, so do not assume one. Watch the IBM Quantum blog and IBM newsroom for press releases, and the Qiskit release notes for software changes. For the full list of upcoming dates, see the events calendar, and for upcoming milestones see catalysts to watch.
Source checking tip
Separate the press release from the paper. A launch post tells you what IBM wants to say. A technical claim should link to an arXiv paper or a data release you can inspect, with the hardware, the circuit size and the classical comparison stated. If a claim says advantage, look for who tried to simulate it classically. Our 15 point checklist helps.
A note on markets: conference weeks are loud, and quantum stocks and coins can swing on headlines. This guide does not predict that any event will move any price, and it is not financial advice. QNT is a community memecoin on Solana with no link to Quantinuum Ltd or to any organizer named here. It carries high risk and can go to zero. Use events to learn, not to trade on hype (why valuations swing on news).

Frequently asked questions
When is IBM Quantum Developer Conference 2026?
IBM's application page lists November 11 to 13, 2026. Quantum Zeitgeist reports the Sheraton Grand Riverwalk in Chicago, but the IBM page we read gives only the dates, so treat the venue as unconfirmed by IBM.
Can anyone attend?
No. IBM lists an application process that closed September 21, 2026, with final invitations by October 12. IBM says recordings will be published afterward.
Does the conference affect QNT?
There is no link. QNT is an independent memecoin, unconnected to IBM or Quantinuum Ltd, and nobody can predict price moves from an event. This is not financial advice.
