How to Set Up a Phantom Wallet for Solana (Beginner Guide)

- Install Phantom from an official source. Use the official Phantom website or your phone's app store. Check the publisher name, since fake apps exist.
- Create a new wallet. Open the app and choose Create a New Wallet. Set a strong password or passcode.
- Back up the recovery phrase. Write the recovery words on paper in order. Store it somewhere safe and offline. Anyone with it can take your funds.
- Copy your address. Tap Receive and copy your Solana address. This is safe to share, unlike your recovery phrase.
- Add SOL. Send SOL from an exchange to your address, or buy SOL inside the app.

What the recovery phrase really is
Phantom describes its recovery phrase wallet as secured by a 12 word Secret Recovery Phrase, which is the only way to restore the wallet on a new device, and states that anyone who has it can access your funds. Phantom also says it will never ask you for it. Your password only protects the app on one device. The phrase is the master key.
