What to Expect at IEEE Quantum Week: 2026 Toronto Recap and 2027 Outlook
What the event is and who goes
IEEE Quantum Week, formally the IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE), is run by the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Future Directions Quantum Initiative. It is an engineering heavy week: software, systems, hardware, education and applications, with researchers, students, vendors and a career fair. Think of it as the practical counterpart to a theory meeting like QIP.
What the 2026 Toronto edition showed
The organizer's page lists the 2026 edition at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, September 13 to 18, 2026. It reports more than 2,300 participants, up over 30 percent from 1,750 the previous year, though another page on the same site says over 2,100 attendees, so treat the exact figure as approximate. Program numbers listed: 10 keynotes, 372 technical papers across 9 tracks, 156 workshop papers, 22 panels, 195 posters, 48 tutorials and around 46 or 47 workshops (the site gives both numbers). There was also an education conference (QSEEC26), a career fair and a Canadian Quantum Pavilion.
Keynote speakers named on the official pages included Alan Aspuru-Guzik, Rajeeb Hazra, Ali Javadi-Abhari, Lisa Lambert and Krysta Svore. Two official pages listed different line ups, with others such as Christian Weedbrook, Travis Humble and Niels Bultink on one or the other, so we cannot say which list is final. Organizers described a theme of turning research into real world impact through generative AI, distributed quantum systems and quantum software engineering. We did not find reliable reporting on what was announced on stage, so we do not list announcements. The previous edition, 2025, was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 31 to September 5, 2025.
What is known about 2027
Nothing confirmed. The 2026 site does not mention a 2027 edition, and our searches found no 2027 dates or location. The 2025 and 2026 venues were different cities, and the event has moved around, but that is a pattern, not a plan. If you see dates quoted on a third party listing, treat them as unverified until the official QCE site says so.
Things to watch for this time (not predictions)
- The 2027 announcement itself: location, dates and call for papers, usually on qce.quantum.ieee.org.
- Software and tooling trends from the 2026 papers: compilers, error mitigation, and hybrid workflows (frameworks compared).
- Whether distributed quantum systems and AI for quantum keep growing as paper topics (AI for decoders and calibration).
- Company talks that cite new systems; look for later papers to back them (hardware makers).
How to follow along
Use the official QCE site, the IEEE Xplore proceedings (full papers are published there, though access may need a subscription), the conference's social channels, and workshop pages. Papers are indexed after the event, so give it weeks. Our news guide and calendar help.
Source checking tip
A keynote is a company talk, not a peer reviewed paper. The reviewed work sits in the proceedings. When a headline says shown at IEEE Quantum Week, find out whether it was a keynote, a vendor exhibit or an accepted paper, because those carry very different weight.
A note on markets: conference weeks are loud, and quantum stocks and coins can swing on headlines. This guide does not predict that any event will move any price, and it is not financial advice. QNT is a community memecoin on Solana with no link to Quantinuum Ltd or to any organizer named here. It carries high risk and can go to zero. Use events to learn, not to trade on hype (why valuations swing on news).

Frequently asked questions
Where was IEEE Quantum Week 2026?
The official site lists the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, September 13 to 18, 2026.
When is IEEE Quantum Week 2027?
We could not confirm any dates or venue. Check qce.quantum.ieee.org for the official announcement.
Does it matter for QNT?
No link exists, and nobody can predict price moves from a conference. QNT is an independent memecoin. This is not financial advice.
