How to Read a Memecoin Chart: Price, Market Cap, Liquidity and Volume
Candlesticks
Each candle covers a time period. It shows open, high, low and close. Green candles closed higher than they opened, red lower. On this site you can switch between 15 minute, 1 hour, 4 hour and 1 day candles.
Market cap
Market cap is price multiplied by supply. For a token with a burn, use the current supply. Market cap is a way to compare size, not the amount of money inside the token.
Liquidity
Liquidity is the value in the trading pool. Low liquidity means a small trade can move the price a lot and selling can be hard.
Volume and buy pressure
Volume is how much traded in a period. Count of buys versus sells hints at demand, though one large wallet can distort it.
Cautions
Charts describe the past and do not predict the future. New to the platform? See what pump.fun is and how to buy.
Worked example with sample numbers
Take a token priced at 0.0002 US dollars with 1,000,000,000 supply. Market cap is 0.0002 x 1,000,000,000 = 200,000 dollars. If 5% of supply were burnt, current supply is 950,000,000 and the same price gives 190,000 dollars. Now look at liquidity. If the pool holds 20,000 dollars on the quote side, a 2,000 dollar buy is 10% of that side and will push the price noticeably. A simple estimate of price impact for a constant product pool is trade size divided by (pool side plus trade size). Here that is 2,000 / 22,000, about 9%. Real pools differ, so use it only as a rough guide. See liquidity depth and price impact.
What each reading tells you
| Reading | Tells you | Does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Latest trade value | How easy it is to sell size |
| Market cap | Rough size | Cash actually inside the token |
| Liquidity | How much a trade moves the price | Whether holders will sell |
| Volume | Activity in a period | Whether it is real. Wash trading exists. |
| Buys versus sells | Trade counts | Size, since one wallet can make many small trades |
Common mistakes
- Reading a chart as a forecast. Charts show what happened. No chart can promise what happens next.
- Ignoring the timeframe. A 15 minute candle and a daily candle tell different stories.
- Comparing market caps while ignoring liquidity.
- Using FDV when you meant current market cap. See market cap versus FDV.
- Trusting tiny pools with huge swings.
Before you click confirm
- Check liquidity relative to your trade size.
- Check the largest holders. See how to read holder distribution.
- Know how the chart was built. See how DEX charts are built and how to use DexScreener.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good market cap for a memecoin?
There is no good number. It tells you size, not quality or safety.
Why is liquidity important?
Because it decides how easily you can buy or sell without moving the price.
Why does the chart on one site differ from another?
Different sites may track different pools, time zones or price sources. Compare the pool address.
What is a wick?
The thin line on a candle showing the high or low reached during the period before the price moved back.
Does high volume mean a token is good?
No. Volume can come from a few wallets or bots. Read it alongside holders and liquidity.
What timeframe should I look at?
Use several. A short one shows recent moves and a longer one shows context, but neither predicts the next move.
