What Is a Token Mint and Token Supply on Solana?
The mint account
Every token on Solana has a mint account. Its address is what people call the contract address or CA. For QNT it is DeqsPTYwvsNjkf5G8zDxziUnFPp55nQZA4vrNM2apump. Wallets that hold the token keep separate token accounts that point back to this mint.
Key fields
- Supply: the total tokens in existence. QNT launched with 1,000,000,000, and the current figure is 944,262,562 after burning.
- Decimals: how finely a token divides. QNT has 6 decimals, so one token can be split into a million smaller parts.
- Mint authority: the account allowed to create more tokens. If it is revoked, supply can only fall, not rise. QNT's is revoked.
- Freeze authority: the account allowed to freeze holders' token accounts. QNT's is revoked.
Why revoking matters
If a creator keeps mint authority, they could create new tokens and sell them, diluting everyone else. Revoking removes that power permanently. It is a useful safety signal, but it says nothing about price or demand. Read how to spot a rug pull.
How to check
- Open the token on Solscan.
- Read the supply, decimals and authorities.
- Note which program it uses, covered in token standards.
Burned tokens reduce supply. See token burning and tokenomics.
Keep in mind that supply by itself is not value. A token with a huge supply is not automatically cheap or expensive, since price depends on demand and liquidity. What supply tells you is how many units share that demand, and whether anyone can add more. Compare supply facts with the live data on this site, as of 2026-10-11.
Raw amounts versus real tokens: a worked example
The chain stores whole numbers. With 6 decimals, one token is 1,000,000 raw units. A supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens is stored as 1,000,000,000,000,000 raw units, a 1 followed by 15 zeros. If 50,000,000 tokens are burned, the raw supply falls by 50,000,000,000,000. Now the dust: with 6 decimals the smallest unit is 0.000001 token. A wallet showing 0.5 tokens holds 500,000 raw units. If you misread raw units as tokens, you can inflate a market cap by a factor of one million. Read decimals first, always. See Market Cap Calculator.
Mint versus token account
| Mint account | Token account | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Defines the token | Holds one owner's balance of one token |
| Stores | Supply, decimals, authorities | Mint, owner, amount |
| How many | One per token | One per owner per token |
| Rent deposit (standard) | Paid once when the token is created | About 0.00204 SOL for 165 bytes |
Solana's token documentation describes the mint as holding total supply, decimals, mint authority and freeze authority. If there is no mint authority, the supply is fixed because no more tokens can be minted. Details are in Token Accounts and Associated Token Accounts Explained and How Token Authorities Work on Solana.
Supply and burning
Burning destroys tokens and lowers the recorded supply. That is different from transferring tokens to a dead address, which leaves supply unchanged. See How Token Burns Work on Solana and the burn calculator.
Common mistakes
- Believing a revoked mint authority means a safe token. It only stops new minting.
- Ignoring other authorities or extensions. A freeze authority or a permanent delegate can matter. See Solana Token Standards.
- Comparing "supply" across sites without noticing whether they use launch or current figures.
- Sending tokens to the mint address.
How to check it yourself
- Open the mint on Solscan.
- Write down supply, decimals, mint authority and freeze authority.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mint and supply?
The mint is the account that defines the token. Supply is the total amount of the token that exists.
What does revoking mint authority do?
It permanently removes anyone's ability to create more of that token, so supply can only stay flat or shrink through burns.
What are decimals?
Decimals set how divisible a token is. With 6 decimals, the smallest unit is one millionth of a token.
What are QNT's mint details?
QNT launched with 1,000,000,000 supply and 6 decimals. Mint, freeze and metadata update authorities are revoked.
Is the mint address the same as the contract address?
Yes. On Solana, the mint account's address is what people call the contract address.
Can a revoked authority be restored?
No. Revocation is permanent. The authority field is set to none and cannot be set again.
What happens to supply when tokens are burned?
The mint's recorded supply decreases, and the tokens no longer exist.
Why do wallets show fewer decimals than the chain?
Wallets round for readability. The underlying raw number has the full precision.
